Bridges Math Workshop in Room 17
Dear Parents and Students,
Our second grade Bridges math curriculum demands that we keep a steady pace throughout the year! Our instructional program will focus on the development of math process skills/strategies, the use of vocabulary to explain math, and the application of math to life situations. In order to stay on top of what we are learning in class, it would be beneficial for students to spend additional time outside of class each week reviewing basic math facts to 20 and sharing math class practice activities with their families. We will use our Bridges Home Connections Workbook as our primary homework resource, however, sometimes students will be given additional materials for studying and practicing as well.
Investigation/discussion of new math content will take place during whole-class Bridges mini lessons. During workshop time, students will be given opportunities to work with math tools, models, and/or questions which extend their mathematical thinking to the next level. Progress monitoring will take place during independent workshop activities and also during classwork/homework checks. Assessments will be given in a variety of ways: written/verbal responses, Bridges Student Workbook formative assessment checks, mini summative assessments, and mini class projects/presentations.
Continuous review of new vocabulary, mathematical processes/skills, and basic math facts will be necessary to ensure progress! Our daily Math Vocabulary Word(s) and Number Corner Calendar/Center activities (led by Mrs. Maurer and our assigned "Captain Math" student helper) will help to support continuous review/new discovery during class time. It generates great discussions in our classroom providing hands-on class activities and games. Our Number Corner Workbooks allow individual student progress monitoring to take place on a daily basis.
I look forward to sharing fun activities and new discoveries on our journey through 2nd grade Bridges math workshop together!
